Bargain Points
Raising a skill (or Path) up to 50 points costs only one Advancement Point per each skill point, but increases the higher the skill level after 50. Spread out the first few level-ups to take advantage of this fact. The most that each skill can be raised in a single level-up is 30 Advancement Points.
Basic Character Development Tips
Thief - Take a well-rounded approach. Depend on your own reflexes to disarm traps early on and allocate the points elsewhere. Improve the ability to evaluate opponents strengths and weaknesses for more effective combat sessions. Bow skill can be postponed for a time.
Mage - Pick one Path of Magic and develop a mass effect capability as soon as possible. If a mage doesn't get an opportunity to cast, it can't help in combat... raise Initiative! Magic Evaluate skill is not needed until mid/late chapters.
Warrior - Slow strike rate can be compensated by developing power with a greatsword. High stamina and chain mail armor make defense less important. Packing some Fire Oil for range attacks requires no specific skill.
Priest - Similar to mage. Develop one Path to enable mass effect spells and the Initiative to remain a factor early in the battle.
