There are a very limited number of heal potion to bail you out of tough
battles and when they're gone expect to die a lot.

be almost unstoppable with this weapon, even in variant games.
Attack Style to "Conservative". Your
naked party members will need the extra defense. You can switch to
"Aggressive" only when the enemy is in the red and will have very limited
your mages! Compared to the casting
ability of mages, brawling does very little damage, especially in the growth
stages. Besides that, mages will be slowcasting often and will attract
enemies like a magnet.
the "Wait" option! Surprised?
Yes, you may allow a first attack, but often it will take your opponents
some attack energy to travel the distance to get to your character which
may reduce the number of strikes. If you are going to slowcast, it's
best to let the enemy get their moves over with so you can assure completing
the cast in the beginning of the next round.
Scrolls! Especially,, in early game
development, these relatively expensive investments will assure success
in combat. Sell the expensive ones (like Chain Lightning) and buy
several cheaper ones (like Firestorm or Madness) to stretch your gold early
Fire Oil! James can contribute better
causing fire damage than beating on an enemy with his fists.
Encumbrance! Your party will be able
to sidestep most attacks if they are unburdened. Use 20% as a target and
sell, sell, sell!.
to William for help. His strength will
inflict a lot of damage, even with bare knuckles.
Level-Ups wisely. Fighters should place level-up
points into Defense, Brawling and Initiative. Mages should concentrate
on a single path (like Fire), Defense and Initiative. Solon will
be most helpful by increasing his Initiative and the Path of Life.
He's a decent brawler, but will serve the group better by casting protective
and healing spells. For him, Initiative is very important...
and he can throw Fire Oil with the best of 'em!
